Once upon a time you and your wife are a happy, lovey-dovey couple planning lots of dates and always having an incredible time in bed. It was almost too good to be true.
…And then the baby happened.
All of a sudden, your life is all about round-the-clock feedings, diaper changes, and bawling. Romance is dead and it’s like you don’t even exist anymore.
Newsflash: With the baby around, keeping your marriage healthy is going to be a big challenge. Your wife will be 100% focused on the baby and you will likely be in the background.
Yeah, you will likely feel ignored, abandoned, left behind.
But you have to understand that taking care of a baby takes a lot of time, effort, and energy. It’s not like your wife is no longer interested in you, it’s just that she is absolutely exhausted.
So what’s a guy like you to do? Well, you have to work hard to get her attention again – just like how you did it when you were dating. But hey, you’ll be using different tactics this time, no flowers and chocolates.
Wondering what to do to get noticed again? Here are our top tips!
Here are 5 ways to get your wife’s attention when there’s a newborn around:
Help in the housework
Yeah, we know you’re tired too. But you want your wife to notice you, right? One way to do this is to make sure that she’s not drained all the time.
If she’s always taking care of the baby and cleaning the house and cooking food and taking care of everything, she probably wouldn’t have much energy for anything else. This means she won’t notice you, even if you get a new haircut or new set of six-pack abs. The less tired she is, the more energy she will have to pay attention to you.
Help in taking care of the baby
For your wife, nothing is sexier than seeing you embrace your new role as a father. It tells her that she can depend on you to keep your family together. Make time to help out with childcare no matter how busy you are. Dedicate at least an hour a day to help your wife with whatever the baby needs.
Taking care of the baby once in a while gives her time to rest. This is the most important thing. Give your wife time to sleep or enjoy a long shower or just do something she wants. When she is feeling rested and relaxed, you can expect her to pay more attention to you.
Surprise her with a good dinner
When was the last time your wife actually enjoyed a decent meal?
With all the things your wife is doing, she probably doesn’t even have the time to sit down and enjoy a good meal anymore. Take it upon yourself to try and go home early and prepare her a good dinner at least once a week. Even for just 30 minutes, let her sit down and worry about absolutely nothing. Make her feel like she is the queen that she is.
Plan a date night
You probably won’t hear her say she needs to feel pretty again. But yeah, she probably does.
If there’s a special occasion coming up, like your anniversary or her birthday, go out of your way and try to plan a special evening for the two of you, just like how it was when you didn’t have a baby yet.
Hire a babysitter or leave the baby with grandma. Get your wife a new outfit and make reservations at her favorite restaurant. Treat her like the queen that she is. Yeah, you’ll probably find yourselves talking about the baby during your date, but try to help her relax. Keep her mind off her mom duties and let her remember just how much you love her.
Just be patient with her
Seriously, can you even imagine all the changes that your wife went through during pregnancy and childbirth? It’s not just her body that changed. It’s everything. She looks different and she feels different. She’s probably just feeling a little lost right now.
Be patient with her and understand that she is new at this whole parenting thing too. She is not trying to ignore you deliberately. She just has too much at her hands. Give her time to adjust and learn motherhood, and soon, she’ll be able to juggle everything smoothly.
